Generic Name: Aeonium
Meaning: Long-lasting
Derivation: A Latinized form of the Ancient Greek adjective αἰώνῐος (aiṓnĭos). The Greek physician, pharmacologist, and botanist Pedanius Dioscorides (c. 40–90 AD) used the neuter form αἰώνιον (aiōnion) in his work De Materia Medica, as a descriptive term for a plant believed to be long-lasting or perennial, not as a generic name.
Pronunciation: ee-OH-nee-um

While two or more genera often share the same specific epithet, which may also be used for subspecies, varieties, and forms within a species, the generic name must be unique. Below is a list of plants in the genus Orbea.
