Stephania is a genus of about 45 species of flowering plants in the family Menispermaceae, native to eastern and southern Asia and Australasia. They are herbaceous, perennial vines with a large, woody caudex. The genus name is a cognate of the Greek "Stephana", which is a feminine form of "Stephanos", meaning "a crown". This refers to the anthers being arranged in a crown like manner.
