Polycarpaea is a genus of plant in family Caryophyllaceae. The genus was named by Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in 1792. The etylomolgy is of Greek name "polykarpaia" meaning "many fruits", due to its plant that contains a fruit like seed and smells like fruits but does not contain any.
