Cistanthe is a genus of small, succulent flowering plants that often bear brightly colored flowers, though their appearance varies widely among species. The genus has a disjunct distribution, with species in California and northeastern Mexico, on the Mexican Pacific Islands, and in western and southern South America, from Peru to northern and central Chile, to northwestern and southern Argentina. Cistanthe was created to segregate several species previously classified in Calandrinia. Additionally, some species from closely related genera have also been reclassified into Cistanthe.
