Billbergia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae. The genus is named for the Swedish botanist, zoologist and anatomist Gustaf Johan Billberg. The species are native to forest and scrub, up to an altitude of 5,577 feet, (1,700 m), in southern Mexico, West Indies, Central America and South America, with many species endemic to Brazil. They are rosette-forming, evergreen perennials, usually epiphytic in habit, often with brilliantly colored flowers.
