Epithet: carpianum
Derivation: Honors Bernard Carp (1901-1966), naturalist, nurseryman, and plant explorer in South Africa. He apparently participated in collecting expeditions with botanist Harry Hall, who specialized in succulents at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Carp initiated and financed numerous expeditions throughout southern Africa. Additionally, he served as the director of Bols Liquor Co. in Cape Town.
